Christianity often has an answer for every moral problem, Bible contradiction, divine hiddenness question, and person who leaves the faith. But at some point, I had to ask whether those answers were actually true or whether they were protecting the belief system from being questioned. As a former megachurch pastor, that realization changed everything. #Deconstruction #agnostic #BibleQuestions #Exvangelical #ReligiousTrauma

Former pastor turned atheist here. This is what Christianity looks like from the outside. After more than 20 years as a Christian pastor, I started seeing the story differently: Adam and Eve, the fall, the flood, Old Testament violence, slavery, the Bible’s contradictions, Jesus dying as a sacrifice, and the threat of eternal hell. I’m not saying this to mock Christians. I’m saying this because when I stopped assuming Christianity had to be true, I could no longer make the story sound morally co

After deconstruction, what do I actually believe about Jesus now? I still believe there was probably a historical Jesus, a first-century Jewish preacher whose movement became Christianity. What I no longer believe is that the Gospel miracle stories and resurrection accounts give us reliable historical access to what actually happened. This is where I’ve landed as of today after looking honestly at the history, the development of the Gospel traditions, and the difference between the historical Je

The Bible looks exactly like humans wrote it. If ancient people wrote the Bible, we would expect it to reflect the ancient world they lived in: their assumptions about power, gender, slavery, violence, purity, punishment, tribes, kings, war, and the structure of the universe. And that is what we find. The Bible regulates slavery instead of abolishing it. It treats women as subordinate to men in ways most Christians would not defend today. It contains conquest stories, divine violence, ancient co

Bible Contradictions Part 1: the death of Jesus. As a former megachurch pastor, one of the first places my confidence in biblical inerrancy began to crack was in the crucifixion narratives themselves. The Gospels tell the central event of Christianity in materially different ways: the day Jesus died, the time of crucifixion, who carried the cross, what the thieves said, and even Jesus’ final words. Matthew and Mark record one final saying, Luke records another, and John gives yet another. For me

Do I miss prayer after leaving Christianity? Honestly, not anymore. For years, I thought prayer was where God comforted me, gave me strength, helped me survive hard moments, and met me in my fear, grief, anger, uncertainty, and pain. But after deconstruction, I realized I was talking to myself the whole time. The comfort, courage, strength, reflection, and ability to keep going were coming from me. God was not getting me through those moments — I was. If you miss prayer after Christian deconstru

The Bible contradicts itself, and this is one of the clearest examples. In Exodus 20, God says he punishes children for the sins of their parents. In Ezekiel 18, the text says the opposite: children do not suffer for the sins of their parents. This video is about Bible contradictions, Christian deconstruction, biblical inerrancy, harmonization, and how many of us were trained to make conflicting verses “fit” because the doctrine was already decided before we got to the text.
